In July 2026 I completed my Gates Immersive Housing Specialist course in the UK with Waterproof media.
The course consists of a thorough grounding in setting up and operating the Gates Immersive Housing for the Black Magic 8K Cine Immersive Camera. This combination of camera and housing has been specifically designed and calibrated to produce the best possible images for underwater immersive production and specifically for the Apple Vision Pro headset.
Field training took place at Vobster Quay in Somerset with theory and footage review following the next day at the amazing Sheds virtual production facility in Bristol.
Capturing imagery for Immersive productions is a skill that not only requires technical knowledge of the equipment used but also a deep understanding of the shooting grammar required to create vision that immerses the viewer without them feeling uncomfortable. It’s an exciting new storytelling tool that has so many applications for narrative work, marketing and conservation.
